In just the first two weeks alone after the State of Emergency was announced, San Diego Food Bank conducted 175 food distributions and distributed nearly 600,000 more pounds of nutritious food to seniors, children, families and many people who have never faced food insecurity in their life.
Here are a few ways the San Diego Food Bank has ramped up their mission during this heightened time of need:
• Implemented a range of safety and social distancing measures to continue the volunteer program
• Provided an additional 1 million pounds of food to those in need during the first month of the pandemic
• Hosted mass drive-thru food distributions at SDCCU Stadium, the Del Mar Fairgrounds and Southwestern College for thousands of families in need
